This year, #GivingTuesday will take place on Tuesday 27th November, and with it come a whole load of opportunities to raise money for your school or PTA.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. Taking place just after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s a way that we can give back after splurging in the sales. It’s also the perfect opportunity to raise some money for your school with a fun and engaging Buengo fundraiser!
What exactly is Buengo?
Buengo is a place where good things happen. It’s a smartphone app that lets causes raise more money and connect with their supporters. Based around a marketplace, you can buy and sell items (and donate the proceeds to charity), volunteer in your local are and freecycle things you no longer need. It’s all about doing good things, and it’s been specially designed to be both easy, and fun, to use!
For schools, we think it’s the perfect fundraising tool. The marketplace is the perfect opportunity to ask parents and pupils to sell the things they no longer need, and donate the proceeds to your school!

How would a Buengo fundraiser work?
So we can be pretty certain that after a weekend of Black Friday bargains, parents may well be having a problem with cupboards fit to burst! What better chance to teach kids about giving back than asking them to find three things that they could sell to raise money for their school? Clothes, books, toys, gadgets – it all works!
All they need to do is take pictures of what they’re giving away and post them for sale on the app. Then, other parents and teachers can get their hands on their last couple of bargains, knowing that the proceeds raised will go towards the school.
Where do I start?
The first thing to do is make sure that your school is set up as a cause on Buengo. This is super easy (and totally free of course). All you need to do is fill out this form. As soon as we have the details we need, one of the lovely Buengo team members will create the cause on the app, and send you instructions on how to log in. You’ll be able to make changes to the description, add more pictures and send updates.
Then, you’re all ready to go! You can ask teachers to talk about it in assembly, post on school social media, parents whatsapp groups – whatever you can think of to spread the word! It’s always a good idea to post a couple of items yourself first so that people get the idea, and then you need to get the troops on board! Just take a quick picture of whatever you’re selling, add a description and price, and choose your school as the cause. Then, share it on Facebook and encourage others to do the same!
